What You Are Not Changing, You Are Choosing

what you are not changing you are choosing

The choices we avoid are still decisions

I stayed in an unfulfilling and abusive marriage for 12 years, held hostage by a deeply ingrained belief that I must honor my vows no matter what. This religious influence convinced me that leaving wasn’t an option. I was living far from what I truly desired, yet I clung to familiar pain instead of risking the unknown. I was choosing the “devil I knew.”

Sound familiar? How often do we stay stuck in relationships, jobs, or situations that don’t serve us, afraid to face what scares us most? We tell ourselves we’re too old, too scared, too inexperienced, or simply undeserving of better.

Here’s the brutal truth: if you’re not changing the relationships, health, body, career, or friends you don’t want, you are effectively choosing them.

Sometimes, we distract ourselves with endless pursuits—the next Amazon purchase, vacation, hookup, or hobby—believing they will fill the emptiness inside. But once the novelty fades, the void remains. So we search again, hoping happiness lies in the next thing.

We don’t find it.

This vicious cycle reveals one critical truth: happiness requires the courage to be authentic, daring, and the belief that you are worthy of the life you deserve.

Pour into yourself and discover a purpose that makes each day shimmer and shine.

Your Life Is a Mirror of What’s Going On Inside

Your life choices reflect what’s happening inside you—often beneath your conscious awareness. They reveal your thoughts, beliefs, and the truths you accept. Many of those beliefs aren’t even yours; they were handed down and adopted unquestioned—from parents, society, and school.

Living your one and only life according to a script written by others—parents, partners, churches, or bosses—is simply tragic.

If you believe life is unbearable, it will be. If you believe you don’t deserve better, your decisions and how you show up will reflect that.

To change your outer world, first deconstruct those inherited beliefs and rebuild a foundation aligned with the life you truly want.

Beliefs create identity.

Identity shapes habits.

Habits generate results.

Not Everyone Should Have Access to You

As you reshape your beliefs, fiercely protect your energy. Not everyone deserves access to you.

Protecting your mental health is no longer a luxury; it’s essential for your well-being and growth.

Surround yourself with people who nourish your spirit, pour into you, challenge you to grow, and uplift rather than drain you.

Finally, stop living on autopilot.

Move through each day with intention instead of repeating the same loops of work, school, family, and distractions.

Ask yourself honestly:

Is this the life I want?

Am I surviving—or am I thriving?

For many, the hardest part is even knowing the answers.

Change doesn’t come from self-help books, retreats, or therapy alone. It comes from within—from the courage to ask yourself the hardest question of all:

Am I living the life I truly want?

What will your answer be, Rockstars?

Take Action: Reflect and Transform

Now that you’ve asked yourself the hardest question—Am I living the life I truly want?—it’s time to move from reflection to action.

Take a moment to journal or meditate on these questions:

  • What is one belief I hold that’s no longer serving me?

  • What small change can I make today to start rewriting my story?

  • Who in my life energizes me, and who drains me?

  • What does thriving look and feel like to me?

Remember, change isn’t a giant leap; it begins with one intentional step. Protect your energy fiercely, surround yourself with support, and nurture your authentic purpose every day.

You have everything you need inside you to create the life you deserve. The only question is—will you choose it?

Rockstars, I’m rooting for you!
